Developer Advocacy
Sean Sheedy is an individual member of the Java Community Process' Mobile & Embedded Executive Committee (JCP ME EC).
The JCP ME and SE/EE ECs meet as one and share the same mailing list. The distinction between the two ECs is not as great as one might think. Most topics are discussed in this combined environment. The separation between ME and SE/EE mainly occurs during JSR ballots, as most ballots are presented only to the EC under which the covered technology is applicable.
My original objective for participation on the ME EC was to raise awareness of the issues facing mobile application developers, and to ask the EC to act on those needs. What I gained instead, through exposure to the deliberations of the SE/EE EC, was an appreciation for the complexity of Java licensing issues and the tension between corporate members embodied in a struggle for unencumbered, open Java standards.
If you have any questions about the JCP, please do not hesitate to contact me.
